Art should expose what is happening in our communities

Dasein Dance Company was founded in 2011 as a creative platform for the choreographic work of director, Lacey Smith. In addition, the company fulfilled a need for young professional dancers living in London, Ontario to have a space to engage in their craft locally. The company has grown with the needs of the artistic collaborators, which has been integral to the development and vision of Dasein Dance as a whole. We have grown into a company that is defined by the life of each project. One of the most important values that has grown from our past projects is that our company is driven by socially relevant work.

Audience responses

[cl-review quote=”…At the end of the dance I had difficulty clapping, because I just wanted to sit in silence. I also had difficulty getting up of my chair, because I just wanted to sit there and not move for a while. My lack of ability to clap was not because I didn’t want to show appreciation for what I had seen, but just that I was so profoundly moved that silence was the only true response for me…I have to sit in silence today and listen again to all that was in your dance.” author=”Louise Moorhouse” occupation=”” type=”quote” layout=”balloon” quote_size=”20″ author_size=”14″ italic=”1″][cl-review quote=”My husband and I saw your I.Me.You.We. performance Saturday night. The depth of exploration and the pulling out of each dancer’s experience was truly courageous and profound. The technical abilities and emotional maturity of the dancers allowed for the deep emotional story to unfold. They held the space for the possibility that audience members could also touch their vulnerability and human capacity for connection and love. Such is the profound gift of the arts and your performance. May this performance continue to touch the lives of people. With deep gratitude for your courage and dedication to dance.” author=”Anne MacDougall” occupation=”” type=”quote” layout=”balloon” quote_size=”20″ author_size=”14″ italic=”1″][cl-review quote=”I.Me.You.We. was the most breathtaking and primal interpretive dance I have ever had the privilege of watching. Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and for your sensitivity in developing this heartfelt work of art. ” author=”June Smith-Jeffries” occupation=”” type=”quote” layout=”balloon” quote_size=”20″ author_size=”14″ italic=”1″][cl-review quote=”A beautiful tribute!!! So glad we came to watch. I have held in a lot of emotions and it felt good to release. The journey of cancer is something I wish no one had to experience. I really felt the community support and family during Randy’s journey and really felt that tonight as well. Thank you Lacey!” author=”Kim Shanklin” occupation=”” type=”quote” layout=”balloon” quote_size=”20″ author_size=”14″ italic=”1″]
